Scattered storms continue moving through the Central US, following a low pressure system in the Northern Plains on Friday. Flow around this system will push warm and moist air northward from the South, which will produce a moist warm front that will move through the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, reaching into the Mid-Mississippi River Valley by evening. Due to ample moisture available from the Gulf of Mexico, this front will kick up scattered showers and thunderstorms, many of which may turn severe. Expect rainfall totals near an inch, with up to 2 inches in areas of severe storm development. Expect highs to remain in the 80s and 90s across the Northern US.

Meanwhile in the South, a cold front will continue pushing southward through the Eastern half of the country. This system will obtain ample moisture from the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf, allowing for scattered storms to persist along the Gulf states. High humidity across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states will allow for heat indicies to reach well above 100 again on Friday. The Northeast and New England will return to slightly more comfortable conditions with highs in the 80s under a few patchy clouds.

In the West, moisture lingers over the Southwest, bringing another day of high-level monsoon storms to Arizona and New Mexico. Rainfall totals will range between a quarter and a half of an inch, as dry surface conditions will cause the precipitation to evaporate before reaching the surface.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 37 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont. to a high of 119 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
